| Welcome reduction in the number of bonfire night calls |
|
Firefighters have been busy with bonfire and firework related incidents over the last week and in particular on November the 5th. A total of 92 incidents were attended on the 5th of November compared with 125 last year. Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service have been working in partnership with Central Scotland Police and the local councils to reduce the numbers of this type of incident and in some cases related antisocial behavior. Kenneth Taylor Director of Service Delivery, said; "Fire crews had a very busy night with a high number of bonfire related incidents. As well as attending calls to these incidents, we still need to attend to other calls during this period which places a considerable strain on our resources. It is concerning that we are still receiving calls to incidents of wheel bins being set on fire. They have in the past caused serious and on occasion's fatal fires. The overall reduction of calls in the week running up to bonfire night and on bonfire night itself (22% reduction) is very welcome." |
