Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service had been recognised as the ‘Fire Brigade of the Year' at the prestigious ‘The Spirit of Fire' awards held in the Wembley Arena in London.

The awards event recognises the ‘bravery and dedication to the fire services' and in particular the personnel within the Service who contribute to fundraising activities' that raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The Fire Fighters Charity is the new name for what was called the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund. The charity helps over 11,000 people annually from funds raised almost entirely from the fire service community.  Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service has over the last year increased its fundraising by over 100% by taking on two of the biggest events including a successful Ladies Driving Challenge at Knockhill racing circuit and an abseil from the Falkirk Wheel.

Chief Fire Officer Steven Torrie says that "the award is a fitting recognition for the staff who have put in a great deal of effort in fundraising and reflects on their commitment and caring nature."
