Fire Board Endorses Children and Young People Strategy Central Scotland Joint Fire & Rescue Board have endorsed a new Children and Young Peoples Strategy. Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service has been engaging with young people over many years on initiatives such as Crucial Crew and the Firesetters. The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 places a statutory duty for the fire and rescue service to engage with young people through community safety work. The new strategy will formalise the existing work that the Service leads, and provide the foundation for future work in this area. The Service, along with its partner agencies is involved in a wide range of activities engaging with young people, these contribute to both local Single Outcome Agreements and the Scottish Governments overall Safer Scotland strategy. Projects like the Fire Cadets provide young people with activities that are both educational and diversionary, they encourage team work and leadership providing the young people that take part in them with pride of what they have achieved. Other local projects and initiatives also include; Safe Drive Stay Alive Act Safe Keep Safe (ASKS) Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Anti Social Behavior Roadshow Youth Development Themes Blue Light Disco's Primary School Programmes Secondary School Programmes Councillor Craig Martin Convener of Central Scotland Joint Fire & Rescue Board said "The Fire Service has long been an inspiration to young people. The local Single outcome agreements are key to delivering joined up working from our services and partners, this strategy will formalise and build on the good work of Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service" Director of Service Delivery Kenneth Taylor said "Firefighters are a positive role model for young people, we want to both educate them in fire and road safety. We encourage their development and community involvement through the interaction with the Service and its personnel. Our strategy engages with all ages on a wide range of themes, providing them with the knowledge to be safe and the skills to be good citizens. |
