Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service has teamed up with our local radio station Central FM and Diageo to produce a summer fire safety radio campaign.
`Act Safe Keep Safe` that's what Central Scotland Fire and rescue Service want you to do when it comes to fire safety.
Fitting a smoke detector is a simple and cost effective way of making yourself and your family safer by giving vital warning in the event of fire. Having a free home fire safety check which may prevent a fire from starting in the first place is even better.
Too much alcohol can seriously impair you reactions in the event of fire and reduce your chances of escaping safely.
The three Cs, Cooking, Candles and Cigarettes, have been identified as the most common sources of ignition in house fires in Scotland. This campaign seeks to encourage people make sure that candles are out, ash trays safely cleared and the cooker switched off before they go to bed.
The summer campaign will proved continous radio advertising covering all aspects of fire safety. Central FM Station presenters will be following the work of the service in reducing fires through community safety.
Kenny Taylor, Director of Service Delivery at Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service, said "Sadly, in almost half of all fire deaths the misuse of alcohol has been a factor. I would appeal to people never to drink so much that you cannot look after yourself and your family. A working smoke alarm provides warning of fire in the early stages, which can give vital time to escape. Similarly, please do not cook when you come home from a night out as this often results in the most serious incidents of fire."
A Diageo spokesperson said "We are delighted to be involved in this campaign and hope that people continue to adopt a responsible attitude towards fire safety"
Ann Marie Miller, station manager of Central FM, said "Central FM plays an important part in this campaign as we deliver the message to the people of the Forth Valley. We look forward to working with Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service in delivering this vital safety information and would like to thank our sponsors, Diageo who have made this possible".
