Recruitment

Join us as a Firefighter

The role of a firefighter has developed over the years and now no longer involves only responding to 999 emergency calls to put out fires. Other incidents our firefighters respond to can range from road traffic collisions to chemical spillages, water rescue operations, collapsed structures and rail incidents.

A major part of our work is in prevention which means that firefighters now spend a large proportion of their time educating the public in a bid to prevent fires and other incidents that could be considered a risk. There's also a lot of training to maintain operational competence and on the maintenance of equipment.

CSFRS works closely with other emergency services such as the Police and Scottish Ambulance Service. We also work with the three local authorities in our area – Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire - to ensure the protection of vulnerable people. We carry out inspections of commercial and industrial premises and provide safety advice to community groups and families. We go into people's homes and assess against the risk of fire and provide advice to families on how best to protect them. All of these initiatives help prevent fires and other incidents.

CSFRS are not currently recruiting for wholetime firefighters. However we hope that these sections will give you an in-depth understanding of the role of a firefighter. We hope that if you have decided on a career with CSFRS, you will register to receive job alerts from: www.myjobscotland.gov.uk which will tell you when our next recruitment campaign begins.  Please note when we are recruiting, applications can only be made online, unless otherwise agreed.  Please note that you can only apply for the role of wholetime firefighter when the recruitment campaign commences.
