Join us as a Firefighter (Control)

Our Firefighters (Control) are based at our headquarters in Maddiston and deal with all emergency 999 calls into CSFRS. They are responsible for the mobilisation of resources to respond to fires and other emergency incidents.

A Firefighter (Control) needs to be able to work under pressure and respond to calls from members of the public who are often facing stressful and distressing situations. They need to be able to think clearly and calmly in challenging circumstances as well as being able to relate to callers to obtain the information they need to put the required resources in place.

Firefighters (Control) are headed by a Station Manager (Control).

The career path for a firefighter (control) is:

  • Firefighter (Control)
  • Crew Commander (Control)
  • Watch Commander (Control)
  • Station Commander (Control)

Whilst this is a uniformed post, it is not an operational Firefighter role. Anyone interested in an operational Firefighter position should read the Firefighter section of Working For Us.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Is willing to learn and to listen and take direction from others
  • Has a calm temperament and can stay in control during times of stress
  • Can think on their feet
  • Can process and understand technical information quickly
  • Can commit to studying and progressing through a 3 year development plan
