Community Risk Register
Central Scotland Strategic Co-ordinating
Group has just published its Community Risk Register. Its purpose is two-fold.
Firstly, it helps to inform the
public about the potential hazards that exist in varying degrees within
Central Scotland. It seeks to reassure our communities that in the
unlikely event they should occur, detailed plans and procedures are in place
to provide an effective response
Secondly, it ensures that the resources of partner organisations are focussed on providing the best resilience, response and
recovery capabilities possible in respect of the hazards
faced.

| Retained Firefighters |
|
Our retained firefighters provide a vital service to the communities in which they live, providing cover to smaller or rural towns within Central Scotland.
Retained firefighters are not based in a fire station but may be at home or out working. But when the call comes to their pager, a retained firefighter must stop what they are doing and respond to the station quickly and safely. To be a retained firefighter, you need to work or live near a fire station, because you have to be able to get there within 5 minutes of a call. You will have to be flexible as you do not know when you will have to attend calls and you will have to consider what impact being 'on call' for a maximum of 120 hours per week will have on your life. You get paid a basic retainer, a fee for call outs and another for the hours spent in action. You get paid for your weekly training night and duties like equipment maintenance. Apart from the challenges and satisfaction of a job well done, this work gives you the chance to work as part of a friendly team. You'll learn new skills, whether it's rescue work or preventative fire safety work, helping you become more self-reliant and confident. If you are interested in becoming a retained firefighter please contact 01324 716996 for an application pack. |
