We plan to continue identifying resources to direct towards Community Safety Work

Community safety is not only a legislative requirement but is also a proven method of reducing death and serious injury caused by fire and other incidents. In order to help fund the many community safety activities, the Service has to identify savings which will enable us to continue providing the current projects and identify new ones.

Do you agree that the Service should divert identified savings to fund current and new community safety projects?

Yes   No

We plan to review the current duty system worked by our Retained and Volunteer Firefighters

Currently, firefighters on the retained and volunteer duty system can be constantly on call to attend to fires and other emergencies. To allow personnel to have time free from duty, the Service will look at a duty system where personnel provide a maximum of 120 hours per week on call. This not only allows for free time, but also helps the Service to ensure that staff are available at times they are most needed.

Do you agree that the Service should change the Retained and Volunteer duty system to ensure that personnel have time free from being on call?

Yes   No

We plan to create a strategic reserve using the third appliances from Bo'ness and Larbert

We will create a strategic reserve utilising the third fire appliances from both Bo'ness and Larbert Stations. We will also identify a strategic location for these appliances to be crewed during major incidents by personnel who have been recalled to duty. They will also be used to replace other vehicles if they are unavailable due to breakdown or accident.

Do you agree with the principle of a strategic reserve for use at major incidents?

Yes   No

We plan to relocate a Front-Line Appliance in the Stirling area

A pumping appliance, previously at Falkirk Station, has already been relocated to Larbert Station. The existing Stirling Station is sited in the Raploch area of the city. The Service is now actively seeking a new site to relocate one of the two fire appliances from Stirling Station to the eastern boundary of Bannockburn, to take account of the planned development in that area.

Do you agree that the Service should relocate one fire appliance from the existing Stirling Station to provide enhanced fire cover to the city?

Yes   No

We plan to introduce a risk based operational attendance

The Service intends to reduce the risk to firefighters and the public by analysing the need for appliances to proceed to every incident using blue lights and sirens. Where there is no risk to life or property, or multiple vehicles are mobile, then some or all may be instructed to travel at reduced or normal road speed. This decision will be based on a thorough risk assessment.

Do you agree that the Service should tailor the attendance of vehicles to the severity of the call?

Yes   No
