Safety & Protection

At Work

Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service has the responsibility for enforcing Fire Safety within the commercial workplaces in the Central Scotland area. We have had this duty since a change in legislation in 2005. This change in the Law has moved the responsibility for Fire Safety within the premises from the Fire Service to the dutyholder/ responsible person of the premises.

What does this mean?

As an owner or occupier you have a responsibility to your workforce and members of the public to ensure their safety in case of fire. To do this properly you will have to complete a fire risk assessment and to take steps to mitigate any problems that you find.

Completing a fire risk assessment and acting on any findings will help you to reduce fire risks and ensure compliance with legislation.

Clicking on the links below will take you to guides which will help you through the process.

What will we do?

Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service is the enforcing authority for Fire Safety and to enable us to test compliance we will audit your premises on a regular basis. The frequency of inspection will depend on the risk profile of your premises and could range from annually to 5 yearly inspections.

We will endeavour to work within the good practice enforcement concordat which helps to ensure fairness and equality throughout the inspection process.

Further advice and guidance in all aspects of fire safety can be obtained by following the links below or contacting the service on 01324 716996.
